Kärpässieniä Koreita

Olen äskettäin kehittänyt suuren ihastuksen kärpässieniin, esteettisessä mielessä. Löysin tämän ihanan Junen minulle vuosia sitten tekemän kärpässienikaulakorun kun järjestelin korujani. Tänä kesänä se saa koristaa taas kaulaani.

I've recently developed a huge infatuation for fly agarics in an aesthetic way. While I was organizing my jewellery I found this fly agaric-necklace made for me by my darling June many years ago. This summer it'll decorate my neck once again.

Forget Me Not

Hihkaisin onnesta kun huomasin, että tuossa aivan lyhyen kävelymatkan päässä olevalla ojanpientareella kasvoi sinisiä lemmikkejä! Rakastan, rakastan, rakastan lemmikkejä. Luonnonkukat maljakossa ovat ihana piristys. Keräsin lemmikkien lisäksi mukaan hieman muitakin kukkia, pirteämpiä värejä korostamaan lemmikkien kalpeaa kauneutta.

I squealed with delight when I noticed there were blue forget-me-nots growing on the side of the road just a short walk from my apartment! I love love love forget-me-nots. Natural flowers in a vase are just wonderful. In addition to forget-me-nots I picked a few other flowers as well, to contrast the pale beauty of the forget-me-nots.

Herkkusuu

I few days ago I ordered some truly delicious jewellery from Herkkusuu koru. I think they'll be hit at work because I work with children. Right now I'm at home though, sick with a horrible fever. The last two days have been a really warm and pretty and I'm so annoyed that I can't just lay outside. Now I have to watch out that I don't actually eat my new delicious jewellery in a feverish delirium.

Miss Peregrine's Home For Peculiar Children

Minun on pitänyt kirjoittaa tästä kirjasta jo vuosia, ihan kirjaimellisesti! Tämän äärimmäisen kiehtovan ja uniikiin Miss Peregrine's Home for Peculiar Children -kirjan takaa löytyy mies nimeltä Ransom Riggs. Kirja, joka on muuten Ransomin ensimmäinen, yhdistää taidokkaalla ja lumoavalla tavalla aidot (lähes kokonaan muokkaamattomat) vanhat valokuvat  ja kertomuksen eriskummallisista lapsista.

Kirja kertoo pojasta nimeltä Jacob, jonka lapsuudessa isoisä on kertonut fantastisia tarinoita kaukaisella saarella orpokodissa asuvista eriskummallisista lapsista.

"I was scared of the monsters but thrilled to imagine my grandfather battling them and surviving
to tell the tale. More fantastic still were his stories about life in the Welsh children's home. It was
an enchanted place, he said, designed to keep kids safe from the monsters, on an island where the
sun shined every day and nobody ever got sick or died. Everyone lived together in a big house
that was protected by a wise old bird - or so the story went. As I got older, I began to have doubts".
"But why did the monsters want to hurt you?" I asked.
"Because we weren't  like other people. We were pecualiar."
"Peculiar how?"
"Oh, all sorts of ways", he said. "There was a girl who could fly,
a boy who had bees living inside of him,
a brother and sister who could lift boulders over their heads".

fifth from Robert Jackson's & the last one from Peter Cohen's collection)

I've been meaning to write about this book for years, literally! It's a book I knew I simply had to buy the second I laid my eyes on it. Behind the extremely mesmerizing and unique book called "Miss Perergine's Home for Peculiar Children" is a man named Ransom Riggs. The book (his first novel by the way) combines real, almost entirely unaltered vintage photographs with a story of peculiar children.

The book is about a boy called Jacob who gows up hearing fantastic stories from his grandfather about peculiar children living in an orphanage on a remote island. When Jacob is sixteen there is a horrific family tragedy that makes him think that maybe the stories told by his grandfather weren't fairy tales after all. He goes in search of the truth all the way to the remote island on the other side of the world where he discovers the abandoned ruin of the orphanage his grandfather told him about. In it he finds a trunk full of creepy old photographs that look very familiar..

Intrigued? If so, I promise that you will not be disappointed with this book! My pile of unread books just keeps on growing but I've returned to these peculiar children many times over the last couple of years. For lovers of haunting stories and old photographs this book is a must read. I believe that the magic of this book will never fade. And you know what..the sequel is coming this year!

Such A Beautiful Day

You know that feeling of guilt you get if you sit inside when it's a really beautiful and warm summer day outside? One day this week I spent four hours outside just reading and listening to music, but the second I got back inside the guilt hit. Just because I wasn't outside the whole time the sun shone. Insane. I blame my mom whom I remember saying "One should be outside because it's such a beautiful day" for like a billion times in my life, haha.
