As The Warmth Of The Sun Leaves My Back

Vanha juutalainen hautausmaa (Starý Zidovský Hrbitov) Prahan juutalaiskorttelissa oli minulle etenkin valokuvauksellisesti pettymys. 1400-luvulla perustettu hautausmaa on yksi maailman vanhimpia juutalaisia hautausmaita.

The Old Jewish Cemetery in Prague was a letdown for me in terms of photographing it. The cemetery was founded in the first half of the 15th century and it is among the oldest surviving jewish burial grounds in the world. The cemetery holds approximately 12 000 graves extremely close to each other and it doesn't take long to walk around it. To get to the cemetery one has to pay for the ticket to the Jewish Museum which includes four different synagogues (Pinkas, Maisel, Klausen, Spanish), and The Ceremonial Hall in addition to the cemetery. Almost all of these are next to each other except for The Maisel Synagogue and The Spanish Synagogue. The ticket costs about eleven euros which is not that much when you take into account that you get into many buildings with it. The buildings didn't really interest us but I have to say that the Pinkas Synagogue was very impressive with its walls filled with 78 000 names of the Holocaust victims and the exhibition of pictures drawn by children in the Theresienstadt concentration camp.
