Varsovassa, Wolan kaupunginosassa kohoaa kaksi massiivista pyöreää rakennusta vieretysten. Kyseessä ovat tietenkin Varsovan kaasulaitoksen (Gazownia Warszawska) hylätyt tankit, jotka aloittivat toimintansa jo vuonna 1888. Vuoteen 1977 mennessä laitos lopetti toimintansa kokonaan ja osa alueesta muutettiin museoksi. Warsaw Gasworks museo sijaitsee hyvin lähellä hylättyjä tankkeja, mutta museo ei valitettavasti ollut auki sinä päivänä kun seikkailimme ystäväni kanssa alueella. Tankkeja ympäröi joka puolelta korkea kivinen muuri ja alueella oli ilmiselvästi myös vartiointia, joten emme edes ajatelleet yrittää pyrkiä tankkien sisään. Niiden ulkopuolen kuvaaminen oli jo paikalle matkaamisen arvoista. Toisella puolella tietä törmäsimme yllättäen kahteen pieneen hylättyyn rakennukseen, mutta niiden sisällä ei ollut juurikaan kuvattavaa. Myös muualla kaupungissa tuli odottamatta vastaan muutama hylätty rakennus.
There are these two huge round building in the Wola District of Warsaw. I'm talking about the Warsaw Gasworks (Gazownia Warszawska) of course. Those huge abandoned gas tanks - the Colosseum - are magnificent. The Warsaw Gasworks date back to 1888 and in 1977 it ceased all operation and part of it was converted into a museum showcasing the history of the gasworks. Warsaw Gasworks Museum is located very near the abandoned gas tanks but sadly it wasn't open on the day we were in the area so we didn't get to see more of the old buildings. A high stonewall rose all around the gas tanks and the area was undoubtedly well guarded too so we didn't even think to try to venture inside. I think they're also reconstructing at least one of the gas tanks. Even though we didn't get to explore the tanks from the inside it was worth the trip just to take photos of the exteriors. Unexpectedly we came across a couple of small abandoned buildings on the other side of the road but there wasn't much to photograph in terms of interiors. In addition to these three (or technically four) dilapitated buildings in close proximity to each other we saw a few other ones elsewhere in the city too.
